“Modern Leicester is dire, but the church is at least protected by an enclave of half-timbered and Georgian buildings near the remains of the castle. Nor is it a tedious town church, but an eccentric medieval building containing the county’s best Norman survivals.”

I was unable to photograph the interior as the Coptic Christians were having a service there.

“The delight of the church lies in the confidence of its plasterwork, a patchwork of ogees round the walls and ribs forming lozenges on the ceiling.”

The teenager in me couldn’t resist a boob shot and I was quite taken by the miniature baby peacefully slumbering under his father’s hand.
